Bolton Oil Change coming back to Lubbock with two locations in the works

New location of Bolton Oil Change in Lubbock, Texas

1900 block of Milwaukee Avenue

Bolton Oil Change – five years after selling to Take 5 – will open two new oil change locations in Lubbock, LubbockLights.com learned late Monday night and confirmed Tuesday in public records.

“Bolton” remained in Lubbock with gas stations and self-storage units.

LubbockLights.com reached out to Charles Bolton who declined to comment now but said to check back for a comment next month.

One location, according to public records, will be just south of 19th Street and Milwaukee Avenue. The other will be in the 6600 block of Indiana Avenue.

Construction permits show the city gave final approval to use the Milwaukee location on July 22. The Indiana location does not yet have final inspection and approval. The city’s permit tracker listed the Indiana location Tuesday morning as 46 percent complete.

Neither location is open yet.

LubbockLights.com reached out to Take 5 both by phone and by email to offer the company a chance to comment but they did not respond by our deadline. We will provide an update if Take 5 accepts the invitation.

How we got here

Bolton’s started in 1949 as a gas station. By 1979, there were 11 locations. In 1981, 82nd Street and University became the first Bolton Oil Change location.

“Eventually, the company provided six oil change locations along with fuel centers and a burgeoning self-storage location. The very successful oil change business was sold in 2019 to further help the company focus on fuel centers and its other enterprises,” the company’s website said.

Bolton Oil Change became Take 5, which continues to operate 11 locations in Lubbock according to the Take 5 website. The new Bolton locations will compete directly with Take 5. LubbockLights.com learned a non-compete agreement expired recently.
