About us

Mission statement

Lubbock Lights gives Lubbock and the South Plains important information and interesting stories to augment local media. We look for stories other local media are not doing and/or no longer have the resources to pursue.

How we operate

We produce original journalism through independent reporting. We have no agenda outside of finding and sharing interesting stories with our audience. We avoid advocacy or commentary.

Non-profit

We are a 501c3 organization.

Our leadership

Lubbock Stories Inc. is the 501c3 organization that publishes Lubbock Lights. Members of our Board of Directors are:

  • Terry Greenberg, executive director
  • Scott Mann, publisher
  • Marc McDougal
  • Benji Snead

Lubbock Lights content providers

Terry Greenberg is editor; James Clark is associate editor. They are responsible for all news decisions.

Editorial independence

Lubbock Lights maintains a “firewall,” – or separation – between news decisions and revenue sources. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of sponsors, donors or their products, services or opinions. We do not give supporters the rights to assign, review or edit content. We do not allow stories to be read before posting.

How we’re funded & financial transparency

Sagen Gonzalez is our Development Director.

Lubbock Lights is supported by sponsors who believe in our mission and our ability to reach their prospective customers and pay for sponsor messages on our site. We also accept donations and make public all donors giving a total of $5,000 or more per year. We will also accept gifts from foundations and will make those public. Click here to see our proposed 2025 budget.

As a news nonprofit, we avoid accepting charitable donations from anonymous sources, government entities, political parties, elected officials or candidates seeking public office. We will not accept donations from sources who, deemed by our board of directors, present a conflict of interest with our work or compromise our independence.

Using our content

Like the Texas Tribune, we invite local media to use our content, provided they use proper attribution in full context citing lubbocklights.com as source of information.

Disclosures

Scott Mann and Benji Snead have a separate company doing consulting for political candidates and other entities. They are involved in the business side of Lubbock Lights through their roles as Lubbock Stories Inc. board members.

Terry Greenberg has a separate company, Greenberg Media Management. He has one client in Lubbock, keeping them and Lubbock Lights separate.
