Lubbock Fire Rescue would like to honor seven firefighters in this week’s special edition of First Responder of the Week. They are recognized for their representation of their fellow firefighters during negotiations with the city for Lubbock’s first-ever Meet and Confer agreement with LFR.
This was no ordinary effort.
This team invested “hundreds of hours” and led all the negotiations on behalf of the Lubbock Professional Firefighters Association. They visited all the fire stations across all three shifts to personally meet with the firefighters.
Here’s the team:
• Deputy Chief Shawn Fogo – with LFR since November 2005
• Lieutenant Michael Harre – with LFR since June 2014
• Firefighter Jack Todd – with LFR since January 2000
• Firefighter Daniel Moser – with LFR since November 2014
• Captain Jake McCain – with LFR since March 2012
• Lieutenant Robert Cope – with LFR since October 2012
• Equipment Operator Joseph Wallace – with LFR since March 2012
Fire Chief Richard Stewart said, “Deputy Chief Shawn Fogo, Lieutenant Michael Harre, Firefighter Jack Todd, Firefighter Daniel Moser, Captain Jake McCain, Lieutenant Robert Cope, and Equipment Operator Joseph Wallace have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to the men and women of Lubbock Fire Rescue.”
“Their dedication throughout the Meet and Confer process was extraordinary,” Stewart added.
It wasn’t just shaking hands and saying hello. Stewart said the effort was to make sure every LPFFA member was informed, heard, and educated on the new agreement.
“Their hard work directly contributed to the successful passage and adoption of the recently approved Meet and Confer Agreement. I commend each of them for their leadership, professionalism, and unwavering drive to better our department and strengthen the future of Lubbock Fire Rescue.”
City officials said the agreement makes LFR either the very best fire department in Texas or very close. The six-year agreement provides for better hours, more hiring, and lateral hiring.
