Ask for a record
The Texas Public Information Act does not require government to answer questions. It requires government to produce documents it already has. So ask for documents: “the invoices for the downtown lighting project,” “the contract with the towing company,” “emails about the water rate study between March and June.” Ask a question and the law gives the government nothing to hand over; ask for the paper and the law starts a clock.
Our public information experts, with 30 years experience of successfully obtaining the information you want to know from government, will write a request that conforms with the law and produces results. We will publish your prompt, our request and the results — including the denials.
We choose four prompts a month and file under our own name at our own expense. Sending a prompt is anonymous: the form works with nothing but the prompt itself.
