Democrat Gina Hinojosa defeated Gov. Greg Abbott Tuesday, ending his bid for a fourth term and returning the governor’s office to Democrats for the first time since Ann Richards left office in 1995.
The Associated Press reported Hinojosa’s victory. The Austin state representative will become Texas’ first Latina governor.
Abbott conceded Tuesday night, KPRC reported. His successor’s term begins in January 2027.
