Lubbock police were called around 2:37 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, to a report of shots fired near East 26th Street and Ivory Avenue in east Lubbock and found one person dead, KCBD reported. The victim's name has not been released.
No arrests had been made as of Sunday morning, and police had not described a suspect. The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and KCBD said details could change as the developing story is updated.

A Plainview man is charged with murder and kidnapping after a Clovis woman was found dead in a Curry County field
A 39-year-old Plainview man is charged with murder, kidnapping, tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of a firearm after a 36-year-old Clovis woman was found dead in a field near Curry Road 8 and Curry Road U around 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, the Curry County Sheriff's Office said, as reported by KCBD and EverythingLubbock.
Investigators said the two stayed at a Clovis hotel Oct. 8, and around 3 a.m. Oct. 9 the woman asked staff for security. They allege he later threatened her in the lobby, forced her into a vehicle and assaulted her, then called dispatch to report finding his wife dead.

A two-truck crash closed Highway 114 near FM 2378 west of Lubbock Saturday evening; both drivers had minor injuries
Two trucks collided near Highway 114 and FM 2378 in Lubbock County, between Wolfforth and Carlisle, in a crash reported at 7:43 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, KCBD reported. Both drivers suffered minor injuries.
The highway was fully closed after the crash, and one lane later reopened, with drivers told to expect delays. The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Carlisle and Wolfforth fire departments responded.

Oklahoma beat top-ranked Texas 27-24 on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, as Tate Sandell kicked a 47-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter to hand the Longhorns their first loss. Texas fell to 4-1; it was Oklahoma's first Red River win since 2023.

Pope Leo XIV said Sunday he will have surgery this week to remove a small lesion from his lung

Christa Pike was returned to a Tennessee prison after surviving a failed lethal injection, her lawyers said
Christa Pike, who survived Tennessee's attempt to execute her by lethal injection, has been discharged from the hospital and returned to state prison, where she is receiving care at the Deborah K.
