Jason Corley says his text to Kent Hance led to his 'illegal' removal from the Precinct 2 seat
Lubbock County Commissioner Jason Corley says a Nov. 14, 2025, text he sent former Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance announcing a run for Congress was forwarded to County Judge Curtis Parrish and led Parrish to remove him and appoint Mark Meurer in December, Lubbock Lights reported Friday, Oct. 23. Lubbock Lights has not verified the forwarding; no Hance response was posted by Sunday.
The text came when more than a year and 30 days remained in Corley's term, the line for automatic resignation under the Texas Constitution; his public Dec. 2 announcement came after it. At a Dec. 19 hearing, Parrish testified no court had declared the seat vacant. The Seventh Court of Appeals dismissed Meurer's appeal Sept. 30.

A Tribune-ProPublica investigation details how tiny Ingram's ICE partnership handed nearly 200 people to immigration authorities
A ProPublica investigation published by the Texas Tribune on Saturday, Oct. 24, details how Ingram, a Kerr County town of 1,900 still recovering from the deadly July 2025 Guadalupe River flood, joined ICE's 287(g) task force program in October 2025 and turned two patrol officers into deputy immigration agents. Police Chief Dustin Breshears said the town had logged 194 "immigration-related incidents" by August.
The story centers on officer Jaron Alexander, who earned close to $5,000 from ICE for about 100 task force hours. Business owners, including Republicans, said the stops took workers rebuilding after the flood. Nationally, more than 1,900 agencies have joined the task force model.
